Story behind the song
Solace Reasoning is based on a twelve tone row, which is introduced in prime form [ E, F, G, C#, C, F#, A flat, B, D, E flat ]. Solace Reasoning starts slowly and mellow with a serene feel, gradually quickening in speed as well as rhythmic value of the notes. In the middle andante section of the piece the tone rows begin to stray from the full forms and more partial rows, mainly hexachords, are used. Melodic sequences and transposition of the notes from the original tone rows are used more freely. Then in the final allegretto section of Solace Reasoning there is a combination of full tone rows and fragmented sections of the tone rows. The end is a partial restatement of the original motive.
