Story behind the song
This song was written for the second novel in my Doors of Destiny series: Copper - The Green Door. No spoilers, so let's just say this poignant tale is sung by Jester the Myna Bird, and that bird can be triggered by a phrase spoken that triggers a song in him. Jester is one half of a court-jester troupe. His owner, Ranger Rexx, is a court jester and entertainer, as well as a King's Ranger. This talented duo has entertained throughout the realm.
Lyrics
The Sun rises morning by morning, you know And when he takes the sky all the stars have to go But the moon was created to reflect his light And she shines in the sky, both by day and by night But it wasnt always that way, so they say Not it wasnt always that way. For the sun is the bridegroom, the moon is his bride And they used to go courting in space side by side And she danced all around him, reflecting his light But you never would see her at night, Oh no, You never would see her at night. See, the Moon was afraid, afraid of the dark For it gobbled her up, bit by bit, like a shark Every month was the same, whether summer or fall Till you wouldnt see her at all, Oh no, Till you wouldnt see her at all. But the Lord made them both to be kingdoms apart For one ruled the day, and the other the dark But the Lord in His wisdom, gave each of them sway When he gave them their crowns on that day. So they say, When He gave them their crowns on that day. But the Moon was afraid, afraid of the dark For it gobbled her up, bit by bit, like a shark Every month was the same, whether summer or fall Till you wouldnt see her at all, Oh no, Till you wouldnt see her at all. Well the Lord, who knows all, had considered their plight But He needed the Moon to rule over the night So He gave her a court, countless pinpoints of light And they throng her, every night, so you see, They throng her every night. Still the Moon was afraid, afraid of the dark For it gobbled her up, bit by bit, like a shark Every month was the same, whether summer or fall Till you wouldnt see her at all, Oh no, Till you wouldnt see her at all. But the Lord who sees all, he promised the Moon That shed always grow back, like a flower in bloom And shell never be gone, shell always give light As long as she travels the night, oh yes, As long as she travels at night. Still the Moon was afraid, afraid of the dark For it gobbled her up, bit by bit, like a shark Every month was the same, whether summer or fall Till you wouldnt see her at all, Oh no, Till you wouldnt see her at all. So the Lord pointed out that the moon disappears In the times when her husband the sun is near For his brightness consumes her, it wasnt the dark Its her love for him, stealing her heart, Oh yes, Its her love for him, stealing her heart. Now the Moons not afraid, afraid of the dark For it cannot consume her, she knows its her heart Most nights you can see her, hanging above Reflecting the light of her love, Yes, Reflecting the light of her love.
