Simple guitar vocal number about lost love
Kevin Green Christian music.
Story behind the song
Written nearly 40 years ago when I was 20. I wrote a lot of pitiful lost love songs, and this was just another. But after writing the final line, I realized that I had written this for my brother who had died 5 years earlier. I still miss him.
Lyrics
Remember California, living on a hill?
we were romeo and Juliet, looking more like Jack and Jill.
I could never keep my head up. guess I never will.
Sittin' at the bottom with another pail to fill
You were there when I was on the ground
You were there when my world was turning upside down
You were there always there somehow
where are you now?
We stood crying, looking up. Should we give it one more try?
Looking down into my empty pail waiting on your reply
You just nodded, so we headed for the sky
But when we made it there, we found the well was dry
You know, we could have filled that bucket up with rain
But we poured it out and tried, like fools, to fill it with champagne
well we made it past that hill like the ones we met before
But you took your empty bucket home, too tired to play anymore
I've met several hills since then, but never left the floor
and I'm sittin' at the bottom of a hill right now, knockin' at your door.
