Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
Written in Portugal, I think… Getting sick of politicians (see May Sense Prevail!) with the Brexit verse added during recording. But the idea of the Goldilocks zone is an important one… life, both physical and mental, functions in the interface between conflicting forces and getting the balance right is crucial.
Lyrics
HBD 17 sweet compromise ABm Temperature 's soaring Don't mean to complain GA A2/4A But its got me imploring for some sweet summer rain Stuck on my own or alone in a crowd The music’s too soft or the muzac’s too loud D A G A That's what life's about -sweet compromise Juggling work or just nothing to do Should I be different or the same as you My plate is empty or on overload The Service is peremptory or from some grovelling toad D A G A D D7 Where's the sense in that, give me sweet compromise. F#mBm A Bm My glass half empty or my glass is half full G D Either is fine by me Em Don't know what they taught you when you were at school A A7 Somewhere in the middle is the best place to be The universe gives your mind a blast Your town’s too small but the world’s too vast Mars and Venus are out on their own Let's keep Terra firma in the Goldilocks zone Astronomically speaking its all about sweet compromise. Instrumental and repeat break As I’ve said before we live in interesting times Closer to ridiculous than the sublime Remain or Brexit is a pain in the arse Our only hope is that all things must pass What’s so wrong about a little sweet compromise? What’s so wrong about a little sweet compromise?
