Solo acoustic number. A heartfelt ballad.

Is traffic your worst enemy, yet your job is to stand out in it? No noisy effects or heavy production, just raw, simple ideas and solid rhythms. All real.
Orange Cones speak from the vantage point of unpopular, forlorn, problematic Americans attempting to get some point across.

Story behind the song
Munro compares "the world" to his brother's girlfriends, who willingly allow him to dominate them, and to play his game his way. He has often suggested that he is responsible for his brother's apparent inability to function as a contributing member of society. As a boy, Munro often rebelled against things so he didn't have to face the fact that he didn't measure up, couldn't compete with others. This song considers that the attitude appeared appealing to his brother, who was otherwise a popular and successful youth, doing well in little league baseball and BMX bicycle racing, and was (is) a far superior guitarist. He postulates that his comebacks to the teasing he faced were effective enough to cause his brother to adopt some of his attitudes. He goes on to hypothesize that, while he outgrew this "resistance" with adulthood, his brother perhaps misunderstood the purpose of the behavior, and felt it was a good way to continue living his life, far past any period in which it might be beneficial to him. Munro specifies that he has tried to teach his brother how to function effectively in life, and to provide for himself as an adult should, and even that their roles have reversed in a way, with the younger brother teaching the older brother how things work.
Lyrics
I tried to tell you what you need to know Things that you should have taught to me I spend all day worrying about you Wishing I knew how to make you see This world isn't gonna be your woman to laugh and cry when you want it to I know you're in the great state of Denial But no one else can do it all for you We don't talk as often as I'd like And not about what I'd like when we do I wanna hear you say that things are good now That you're working hard and getting through I don't know who taught you this resistance I sit around and pray it wasn't me I don't know how to undo all the damage that keeps you from being what you want to be I tried to tell you what you need to know Things that I should have learned from you I spend every day just worrying Worrying that somehow I've failed you
