Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
As the great Deptford philosopher Ron Moore once said: 'the trouble with getting old is all your friends start dying...' I know what he meant; and Andrew's death last year was the third friend to go in three years... It certainly helps to bring mortality to the fore.
Lyrics
ROR 08 Another Good Man Down Am. Em I try my best to keep my spirits high Am Em Despite the shit that's always flying by Bm D One thing that's guaranteed to make me frown C Bm C Em I just heard another good man's gone down Don't talk to me about some eternal plan That's something I will never understand Just as the leaves in autumn turn to brown I just heard another good man's gone down D C G Don't talk to me in pointless platitudes D C Don't search for comfort in a lie D. C G Each of us is just playing a waiting game Whatever we try to do you know it all ends the same Whether you're a pauper or you wear a crown. I just heard another good man's gone down
