Story behind the song
These pieces "for clarinet 2 hands = solo, a bit of Satie humour) were composed by Phillip W. Warren in the mid 1960's as a result of trying to play Stravinsky. They are in hand written manuscript form since no computer software was available at the time. Numbers 1 and 2 were performed at the Saint Cloud Minnesota Unitarian fellowship September 1968. Interesting anecdote at my performance. The guitarist Leo Kottke came up to me and asked if they were written out since they sounded improvised. I said they were written but I wanted them to sound improvised. I guess I succeeded. The current performances were recorded by a brilliant young clarinetist Robin Black at a recital for the music department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Langley, BC, November 2017.
