A brand new 'Psychedelic Pop song' from Big Sleep. Just who or what is/was The Strawberry man? A song that has burst out of a former 'Golden Age of Pop', wearing a new and improved colourful suit of clothes. 21st Century Psychedelia.

Artist picture
Big Sleep is the name of the imaginary 'band/group, that all the music I create with my friend and musical collaborator, Tony Webster goes under. Tony is pictured on the right in the photo; me on the left in the dark blue suit. Tony is an artist / illustrator, writer of lyrics and stories, song arranger and a mine of information on any subject under the sun . . . I (David A Briggs) play all the instruments (mostly of the stringed variety), perform all the studio 'jiggery-pokery', sing and dabble a little in the visual arts.

Tony's legendary, 'open to interpretation' lyrics. Tony sings and I played the instruments.
Lyrics
The Strawberry Man (Webster / Briggs) The Strawberry Man at the end of our street, decided to move away. we were all very sad, at the thought he would go. so we tried to persuade him to stay, so we tried to persuade him to stay... guitar break #1 we said, "Strawberry Man, please stay if you can, don't go away today, Strawberry Man can you understand, where would we go to play?" we said, "Strawberry Man, please stay if you can, don't go away today, Strawberry Man can you understand, where would we go to play?" Then the Strawberry Man, who was all smiles and grace, simply declared his intention. He knew the fears and the tears displayed on our faces, were in fact our own invention. were in fact our own invention ...he decided to stay away... guitar break #2 we said, "Strawberry Man, please stay if you can, don't go away today, Strawberry Man can you understand, where would we go to play?" we said, "Strawberry Man, please stay if you can, don't go away today, Strawberry Man can you understand, where would we go to play?" guitar break and solo... thankyou Strawberry Man...everything is oh so sweeter with you in our lives. thankyou Strawberry Man...with you in our lives... we were so pleased to meet ya... ad-lib vocals... thankyou Strawberry Man... dreamy psychedelic 'lava-lamp' guitar section...

Wow. I thought I was listening to a never released song byThe Move, from around the time they released "Blackberry Way" and "Fire Brigade". Your sound is a bit more psychedelic, but the mood and the songwriting is surely there. Absolutely amazxing. The outro is stunning! I love this retro British pop style :)

A great journey back to the 60's and psychedelic pop music. Excellent arrangement, love the changes at around 3:00. Tony's lyrics always create the perfect scene. Excellent - radio hit material.

This is very creative work, David and sounds great! It takes me back to the "Bosstown Sound" of the late 60s with bands like Ultimate Spinach, Beacon Street Union. Very cool song!!!

Tasty descending bass lines, crunchy guitar tones and new classic riffs, man oh man am I a fan of the Strawberryman. Dig the vocal effect throws, subtly highlighting key words. A great melding of straight-ahead retro rocking and swirling psychedelia, and I'm wowed by the way it melts after the 3 minute mark. A fantastical voyage!
