A song in open D I wrote today... Songs are like a cloud for me... they float in all of a sudden and if I don't catch them they float away... Probably hundreds have floated away over the years ... this one I caught as a quick demo....

Story behind the song
Even though our weather beaten hero has spent many years on the seas, with a new baby girl at home, he is missing home and the comfort of his wife... His father led him into the seaman life, and his mother fears for his safety.... he is very far from home..... but his heart has never left port.

Lyrics
I am just a sailor, I’ve been tossed the sea;
My face is brown and weathered from the sun
At night I stand before the mast and gaze up at the stars,
In solemn wonder…. And I dream of home.
I am my father’s son, I am my mother’s child
And when my work is done, I will go home.
Carry me across the sea, but my heart will never roam.
Far from home
At home there is a baby, and she is safe in mama’s arms
She has brought new life into my heart.
And as I face the rising sun and look up to the sky,
In awesome wonder….. and I dream of home.
I am my father’s son, I am my mother’s child
And when my work is done, I will go home.
Carry me across the sea, but my heart will never roam.
Far from home
Carry me across the sea, but my heart will never roam.
Far from home
