My sublime Valentine

A bit of an old fashioned crooner, with a trumpet intro. Short but sweet. Written for the 2018 CC valentine show, but not finished in time for it. Roll on 2019.

Story behind the song
I started to write this for the 2018 CC songwriter's "Valentine's challenge", but didn't finish it until March 14th, in other words, in plenty of time ....... for next year.
Lyrics
I thought I was dreaming But if I was dreaming Oh what a dream it would be When you smiled I could not believe That you were smiling at me The skip of my heartbeat when I realised Was something quite sublime So I walked up to you And said right to you Will you be my Valentine The skip of my heartbeat as I now recall it Was something so divine When you said to me Yes I will be But only if you'll say that you'll be mine

I could imagine this song being a West End stage hit. Lovely retro song and immediately engaging.
Every time I hear this, it keeps getting better. The way Tim crafts a song is something special. Sweet but never schmaltzy, the sincerity and authenticity give it something I could never hope to achieve. The length is perfectly period correct, but that doesn't keep me from wishing it would just keep playing. Man, that trumpet... :)
