Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
This was one of the first songs I wrote after my 25 year hiatus... My cousin in Australia used it as a backing track for a tourist video of a Queensland national Park - I didn't have the heart to tell her it is a song about the cleansing power of sexual oblivion... la petite mort and all that.. So no, it's not about a river... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of7xVD8ofPI
Lyrics
Take me to your river, Take me to your river Let me lose myself, let me drown I’m tired of talking, so tired of talking I need a place to hide, won’t you take me down Take me to your river, Take me to your river I need to lose myself before I lose my mind (La la la la la la, La la la la la la,) 2 I hear your laughter, your rippling laughter Feel it carry me with the flow And in this moment, this stolen moment Wrap around me now and make me whole Take me to your river, Take me to your river Wash it over me, cleanse my soul (La la la la la la, La la la la la la,) 2 Take me to your river, Take me to your river I need to lose myself, I need to drown
