The music of Lee Shapiro, which consists of a variety of styles and genres. I would appreciate if you "liked" or commented on any of the songs you enjoy.
My favorite kinds of music is the kind that surprises you. While I enjoy conventional type songs (verse, chorus, verse chorus, bridge, chorus), I prefer songs that take you on an adventure. This includes jam songs (Grateful Dead), and songs with many detours and lots of dynamics (Rickie Lee Jones, Dave Matthews). Although most of my songs tend to fall into some kind of normal verse/chorus formula, I do tend to try and mix things up a bit. Which is why most of my songs last longer than 4 or 5 minutes.

Story behind the song
Sometimes an urge builds up inside me to write/perform/record a song. The urge can be so overwhelming sometimes it’s like having withdrawals and craving a drug. These usually result in songs that are more emotion and drive than precision and technique. Which is often the case with songs in the “Garage Rock” genre….and with this song in particular. The chord patterns are recycled, the lyrics flew out of my brain as fast as I could write them, and the final result is just another “pushing on through the in the face of adversity” type of song. Whether that adversity is old memories or mental/physical problems I’m currently experiencing. It also speaks to the end of a seemingly very quick summer, and getting ready for a long cold winter, with its short days and long, dark nights. It’s definitely not one of my better songs, and could probably be greatly improved upon. But here it is in its raw form, which can conveniently be filed under the “Garage Rock’ genre.
Lyrics
“PUSH ON” Music and Lyrics by Lee Shapiro I say it fast. A message sent to you. It may not last. But the message will get through. Everything I’ve done…..can find its way back home. Always on the run…..on the run and on my own. Ohhh….The summer’s come and gone again. Ohhh…. I’ve gone and lost another friend. Push on. It’s the only thing that I can do. Come on. If you only knew what I’ve been through. Push on. Push out that safety envelope. Come on. Push on the things that help me cope. In the past. It’s easy to get stuck I’ve been trashed. In the times I’ve run out of luck. Everything will come. In its own sweet time. Everything is done. In meter and in rhyme. Ohhh. The winter brings an early darkness. Ohhh. When did you get to be so heartless? Push on. It’s all that I can do. Hold on, to my hand and follow me on through. Push on. Passed those long winter nights. Wait on, ‘til the summer sun shines its blessed light. I wake up not knowing if it’s Tuesday or June I stay up all night to follow the lonely path of the moon *SOLO* Repeat Pre-Chorus and Chorus 1 and Chorus 2
