Story behind the song
Steph wanted me to help her with this song. She wrote the concept and we honed it till it was finished, then I put music to it.
Lyrics
DON’T FORGET MY NAME
STEPHANIE RHOADES & J. MICHAEL TRACY MALE VOCAL/UP TEMPO
As dawn broke the sky the Marines arrived, we landed, on Omaha Beach
Death camps filled with the innocents, Pearl Harbor broke our peace
So I fought for my home, my family and God, all I had to give I gave
But I died in the sand when the battle began, and never knew, who carried the day
Shot down in a Blaze of glory
Will the children sing my story
Will others pick up where I’ve fallen to fight
To keep the innocent safe?
Will they know it’s now or never
And will this freedom last forever
Will they hunt down the men, committin’ these sins
Or will they just forget my name
Knee deep wadin’ through mud of a rice field, choppers roared overhead
10 young men lay bleedin’ in the water, another 8 lay dead
I was first in line when I stepped on a mine, there was nowhere to run
Another war fought from a politician’s desk, did we die in vain, or was free, dom, won
(chorus)
I could taste the dust burnin’ into my lungs in the Bagdahd heat of the day
Not even twenty, was too young to die but the sniper, shot me anyway
I believed in the Freedom I was there to defend, so my death, was not in vain
Yet I wonder, if you’ll remember me, or will you just, forget my name
(chorus twice)
(tag)
Please don’t forget my name
