Story behind the song
An old peach tree in my garden grew fruit one year for the first time but when picked and opened up we found that ladybirds had got into the centres and eaten much of the cores. This lead to writing about ladybirds as fascinating creatures and putting the words to a light jazz tune and guitar style of playing which I was doing at the time - Mike Carter Jones
Lyrics
Ladybird
I’m boppin on peach pips
Swinging on my wing tips
I’m bathing in dew drops
Practising my back flips
Cute little creature
Black spotted features
Love my reflection
In every direction
Flying out to tease
In red shiny day clothes
Riding on bees knees
Drinking from the fruit cloves
Cute little creature
Black spotted features
Love my reflection
In every direction
How can you watch me
Without feeling happy
When I perch your finger tips
You know you have to love me
Cute little creature
Black spotted features
Love my reflection
In every direction
