Story behind the song
We have been blessed with song writing success and our Christmas compositions have received decent radio airplay and their youtube videos have been shared many times.
Lyrics
I (Bill Dann) am a Central Pa. native (State College area) and a long time radio Music/Program Director. In 2007, I was preparing to host my annual "Lost Hits of Christmas" radio show and a friend sent me a Christmas CD from Jack Servello, an Altoona (Pa.) native. Liking several of the songs on the CD, I contacted Jack to gain permission to play some of the songs on the show. While we were talking, Jack asked if I had written any songs before. Turns out, I had penned lyrics to a potential Christmas song called "Stand Back and Marvel at the Cross", but hadn't done anything with it. He suggested that I send him what I have with no guarantees, but he would take a look. To my surprise, Jack recorded the song and sent me the MP3 a few days later. I was totally blown away with the finished product. The song even brought tears to my wife's eyes when I played it for her! It was then that I knew that this would not be our only collaboration. Since then, we have written over 50 songs to date, with a number of them gaining National attention, including, "Thor the Purple Squirrel from Jersey Shore", "Marsha the Marshmallow Peep", "Heroes Close to Home", and "Tonka Trucks and Tinker Toys", just to name a few. We have written tribute songs for the Beach Boys, Ron Dante (Archies, Cuff Links) as well as songs for other Holidays such as St. Patty's Day, Halloween and much more. Our songs have received extensive airplay including Dr. Demento, and have even appeared on a Travel Channel TV special. You can find much about our music through numerous newspaper/magazine articles by searching "Bill Dann Jack Servello" on Google. We also have a youtube channel which features many of our songs via video slideshow by searching "dreamsedge' or "dann/servello". We have indeed been blessed. Anyway, regarding our Christmas songs. We would count it an honor if you would include them on your Facebook page-as many as we are allowed. And we are okay if visitors would like to download them. We believe that music was meant to be shared. I would like to say a few words about each of our submissions if that is okay. Again, feel free to use what you choose. Hope I'm not providing you with too much info. I can't tell you how proud I am that have been able to work with such a top notch and talented musician as Jack Servello. The fruits of our labors continue to amaze me. Attached are our first two submissions. "Tonka Trucks and Tinker Toys" was inspired by fond childhood memories of Christmas spent in small town America. This song is often requested for use in making Christmas video postcards. The slideshow video from Michelle Peters, who does a tremendous job with all of our videos, is a sentimental favorite among many. It is a must see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VP_3hiU23Q . The other submission on this E-mail is one that we wrote last Christmas as a tribute to the 60's dance craze "Peppermint Twist". Joey Dee, co-composer and artist for the #1 hit, was honored by the tribute and gave us a glowing endorsement of the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd4YEo0tQEI . These are the only youtube links I will send for now, but can include them with the other submissions if requested. Well, that's it for round one! More on the way. Would count it an honor if you would give the songs a listen. Thanks for allowing us to share and we hope you enjoy our Christmas creations! Best, Bill & Jack
