Folk singer, social commentary, satire, people's stories, children's music
Hi Folks, The Bard Insurgent here. My comrade D.O. (the Poet Roofer) and I got that handle (The Bard Insurgents) from traveling town to town performing songs and poetry about people's lives. I've been performing since I was 3 years old, cutting my vocal chords on liturgical and classical music. I was a concert soloist as a child, when I wasn't herding cows, throwing hay and shoveling manure. During the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam war, I began writing songs about social change. I left the country in 1970 and my dozen years in other countries, mostly in Africa & South America, have provided a global perspective to my music. My travels helped me realize that people all around the world are essentially the same in their basic life needs and their desires to live peacefully in their communities. These experiences have informed my commitment to working for international understanding as I organize at home. A powerful way to educate and inspire is with music. I tell people's stories, do social commentary with a touch of satire that I hope you enjoy and share with your friends, as well as sing together in the streets and in your living rooms. I also have children's music written for the children in my life with Jacob and Kayla as primary muses. Looking forward to seeing you on the road, Tom

Story behind the song
Exxon Mobile's oil spill in Mayflower, AR made the community a sacrifice zone.
Lyrics
A good oil comp’ny has oil deliv’ry comin right to your door. Flow down the street, over the curb, cover your kitchen floor It’s Exxon Mobil oil on demand, whether you want it or not Just ask the folks of Mayflower, AR who got more than they want. A good fracking pipeline delivers the gas right to your kitchen sink. A quick way to make fire water; easier than a still, don’t you think? And that Bitchimen tarsands creates new habitat as to the Gulf it snakes Making for birds, the fish and the mammals, little Bitchimen lakes. No more lawn to mow, ever again, labor saving you see No mosquito bites, and bugs that light, never get stung by a bee No more weeds to pull in the garden, no dandylions on the lawn You can get all this in Mayflower and buy a home for a song. Let’s thank the white House and Congress for protecting the planet for kids Watchin em pocketin money they’re profitin from takin corporate bids. If you look at their hands, you’ll find tarsands smearing palms with payola grease Just keep voting for Wall Street till life’s obsolete – watch the CO2 increase Obama & Romney, Hillary& Jeb, both sides of the aisle Been layin that pipeline year after year; layin it mile after mile And what does Obama now know That he didn’t know 6 years ago? As they lay that pipeline from shore to shore Talk to the people in Mayflower, Arkansas who don’t live there anymore.

Great song. I really like song writers that speak truth to power. Keep it going Tom.
