Story behind the song
Lyrics inspired by one of my favourite childhood story books, Joe Austin's 'Grandpa Clock's Day out at the Seaside' and also may have been inspired by the lyrics of 90's Indie band Cast's 'Guiding Star'. I decided that after sitting on Blackpool Beach and watching the sunset during June 2002,I would like to write a song about the sea before going home to compose it using a cheap Casio keyboard and it's built in sequencer.
Lyrics
Searching for the treasure of our dreams,we set sail, out to sea, sunrise, see's a day of what will be lot's of thrills and mystery. BRIDGE Looking back we wave goodbye, as seagulls fly across the sky, 2nd BRIDGE Morning sun shines all around, a ship nearby is heard as it's horn starts to sound. Verse 2 Looking at the water's edge,we can see, stormy seas, skies above turn black as we aim back for the beach,as it ends in mysery. BRIDGE Now we've sailed a hundred miles, there's no more laughter-no more smiles. GUITAR INTERLUDE NEXT PROGRESSIVE VERSE We are struggling to get further, we really won't survive, crashing into waves as gales blow us side to side, could this really be the end of my short life and all my friends, But as we look, way ahead, we see a lighthouse shining red. INTERLUDE NEXT VERSE Sailing home,as sun shines on the sea, a lovely sight to sea, we'll make it home for tea, and everyone around, know we are homeward bound, and everybody knows, we'll have so much to say, about today.
