Story behind the song
I wrote this song while hitch hiking several years ago. I had no pen or paper; so, I had to memorize each line as I went.
Lyrics
(verse 1)
Well, I'm standing out here with a shiver from the cold.
Lonely when surrounded, I'm separated from my soul.
Well, I dream in color; but, I live in black & white; and,
I'm wondering if you might not be the thing I need tonight.
Could you be that thing I need? A painkiller for the night?
(chorus)
Well, I wish you could've been there for my loneliest dream.
Lonely as I've ever been, my loneliest dream
Well, I cry out to the darkness; but, you don't hear me scream.
Lonely as I've ever been, my loneliest dream.
(verse 2)
I wake up screaming, reaching out to find a friend.
Do you think you would've lent your hand if you knew
me back then? So cold & lonely, the abysmal misery.
Then a mirror drops before my face & all I see is me.
A mirror drops before my face & all I see is me.
(chorus)
(bridge)
But, I don't feel sorry for myself,
I don't feel sorry for myself,
I don't feel sorry for myself,
my loneliest dream.
I don't feel sorry for myself,
so tired of feeling sorry for myself
I don't feel sorry for myself,
my loneliest dream. Lonely as I've ever been,
my loneliest dream.
(verse 3 repeat verse 1)
(chorus)
