Story behind the song
Ocean was written after I went to New Jersey with my family on vacation. We actually went to the Ocean and after leaving New Jersey, I decided I wanted to write a song about the Ocean. I don't visit the Ocean very often, living in Wyoming so I thought it was pretty cool. When I was about to go to sleep the night before I left, I thought of the line "they're saying she's the ocean, I want the waters over me". Over the course of about four months, I thought of the rest of the song and lyrics and recorded it in my basement. It's a fun song.
Lyrics
My friends and I climbed a theater
I counted my money til’ I had none and cause
Working is good for your soul you can
Count your dollars and have something to keep and you know
I am Jack’s broken heart and I’m tearing in the middle and lets
Take it back from the start
So do you dance, Do you sing
Well it doesn’t mean to me
And cause they’re saying she’s the ocean
I want the waters over me
Let it rise, Let it ring
Well it doesn’t mean to me
And they keep saying she’s the ocean,
I want the waters over me
Hello is a new word
You can keep your head safe in the clouds
And I never knew how jealous
You make me without a doubt and you know
I am Jack’s broken heart and I’m tearing in the middle and lets
Take it back from the start
Well do you dance, Do you sing
Well it doesn’t mean to me
And cause they’re saying she’s the ocean
I want the waters over me
So let it rise, let it ring
Well it doesn’t mean to me
And cause they’re saying she’s the ocean
I want the waters over me
And as I forget the winter,
It blows right through me, life’s so easy for me
When you’re hanging from a tree,
it blows right through me, life’s so easy for me
meee
So do you dance, do you sing
Well it doesn’t mean to me,
And they’re saying she’s the ocean,
I want the waters over me
Let it rise, let it ring,
Well it doesn’t mean to me,
And cause they’re saying she’s the ocean,
I want the waters over me
And I’m saying you’re the ocean, I want the waters over me.
