Story behind the song
*WARNING*
If you would rather enjoy this piece of art and have it come to mean something truly unique to you, do not read the backstory. Just as the band “Aerosmith” once criticized the music video industry of robbing fans from having their own visions of imagery associated to a song and supplanting it with some “official” footage, so too can knowing a songs backstory potentially come to rob it of having some special place and meaning for you.
Or both can exist. It’s all really subjective. Proceed with understanding.
Thank you,

The Official Backstory
This song did not start off as a song. It started off as a letter written to me in 1993 by an ex. It was a poem within a letter. Later, I put music to it and made it into the song it is today.
This song was a call to me, and the answer was a song I wrote later called "If I Was Dead".
Years later my ex would not accept or believe that they had ever written the lyrics to "The Song". Even when shown the original copy in their own handwriting, they were reluctant to admit that they created it.
Funny how much changes over time, isn't it?
I once did a recorded version of this song with the band "Nerado Black" back in my high-school days, on an album called "The Astral Plane".
I once did a recorded version of this song in high school as a part of a Music Class school project with an amazing singer named Stacy O'Brien singing. I lost that copy, which was really unfortunate. She has such an amazing voice. I hope I can get her to sing again someday. She is the kind of person that sings, and the world starts getting better - if only she could see that.

If I should die in my sleep tonight
If I should never wake up again
If I should go deaf or blind
Would you leave me here all alone
Would you pick up the pieces and leave
Or would you sit and think of me
Because
If you should die in your sleep tonight
If you should never wake up again
If you should go deaf or blind
I would mourn for you forever
I would sit by your side and cry
I would do anything I could do for you
For I love you, I need you
And I'll never let you go
No matter what the circumstances
I'll always be here
Just for you my dear
