I have been a singer/songwriter/musician for over 40 years. I have written many songs, but most of them (sadly) are on cassette tape. My 5 digital songs on this
Although undiagnosed, I had been experiencing the (often wonderful) highs & terrible lows of bipolar illness. I knew first hand what it was like to lose sight of love and joy in my life. This song was written in the third person about an allegedly fictitious character whose life was devoid of all love. But it ends on a hopeful note! (no pun intended)
Lyrics
He watches the TV
He clings to his family
And he goes to work every day
He feels all the pain
He lives with the rain
He suffers and he earns his pay
CHORUS: But he doesn't see love or the eyes of a child
The heart of a friend, the song of the wild
And he doesn't recall the start of it all
When heaven gave way and he started to fall
He hears the world cry
Sees the tears in the eyes
The emptiness lonesome inside
Yes he's been through it all
Spring, summer, and fall
But winter is eating his pride
CHORUS: And he doesn't see love or the eyes of a child
The heart of a friend, the song of the wild
And he doesn't recall the start of it all
When heaven gave way and he started to fall
BRIDGE: How did he fall and where will it end?
How can he live? How can he pretend?
But through the pain, the drops of rain
Will someday lead him home again
CHORUS: And one day he'll see love and the eyes of a child
The heart of a friend, the song of the wild
Yes, one day he'll recall that side of the wall
Where heaven remains in the heart of us all
Yes, one day he'll recall that side of the wall
Where heaven remains in the heart of us all
