Finger style and Acoustic Progressive guitar, flute, synth and Mellotron.
Welcome to the music of Carlo D'Anna's Ridiculous Dream music. Also known as "Dream Warrior" in some circles. Influences and music styles ranging from basic to progressive rock, with definite Retro seventies sound. If you enjoy the sound of Moody Blues, George Harrison, Genesis, Dead Can Dance, and others of the same style, more or less, you will probably like this music. I use quite a bit of Mellotron and acoustic fingerstyle guitar as well.

Story behind the song
Mayflies or shadflies are aquatic insects belonging to the order Ephemeroptera. This order is part of an ancient group of insects termed the Palaeoptera, which also contains dragonflies and damselflies. Over 3,000 species of mayfly are known worldwide, grouped into over 400 genera in 42 families. Groups of male imagoes perform a mating flight, or dance, over water as dusk approaches, flying into any breeze or air current. Individuals may fly up and forward, then float downward and repeat the performance. Females soon join the swarm, rising and falling as the dance continues. The male approaches the female from below and behind and grasps her thorax with his elongated front legs. Mating is completed on the wing. After her release by the male, the female deposits her eggs and dies. A few species are ovoviviparous—i.e., eggs hatch within the body of the female generally as she floats, dying, on the surface of a stream or pond. Mayflies are relatively primitive insects and exhibit a number of ancestral traits that were probably present in the first flying insects, such as long tails and wings that do not fold flat over the abdomen. They are aquatic insects whose immature stages (called "naiads" or "nymphs") live in fresh water, where their presence indicates a clean, unpolluted environment. They are unique among insect orders in having a fully winged terrestrial adult stage, the subimago, which moults into a sexually mature adult, the imago. Mayflies "hatch" (emerge as adults) from spring to autumn, not necessarily in May, in enormous numbers. Some hatches attract tourists. Fly fishermen make use of mayfly hatches by choosing artificial fishing flies that resemble the species in question. One of the most famous English mayflies is Rhithrogena germanica, the fisherman's "March brown mayfly". The brief lives of mayfly adults have been noted by naturalists and encyclopaedists since Aristotle and Pliny the Elder in classical times. The German engraver Albrecht Dürer included a mayfly in his 1495 engraving The Holy Family with the Mayfly to suggest a link between heaven and earth. The English poet George Crabbe compared the brief life of a newspaper with that of a mayfly, both being called "Ephemera", in 1785.

Nice surreal melody with a clear crisp acoustic guitar. The fx and synth add give a great body to this fine tune. This is a good listen

Interesting, mysterious sounding textures in this one. I enjoyed the lack of repetition in the song structure. And I like how the listener never can tell where the song is headed.

such an interesting blend of instruments. very unique composition that holds the listeners attention. I couldn't attach a genre to it if I tried but then I run into that a lot on your music. well done, buddy.

A lot of space in this music for the subtle nuances of the acoustical core to shine through. Nice acoustic guitar play here that sparkles. Love the mellotron tones. After reading your “about the song” section. I believe you nailed the essence of the Mayflies. Thanks for subject matter and track. Always learn something new when I drop by.

Nice intro and the acoustic *glistens* very well. This gives me some hints of Jethro Tull's inspiration from the woods and the mix is great as is the sustaining electric sounds! 5 Stars for this one!

Such an authentic and natural sound here. An old sound as well, although you are using a mellotron. It really feels like going for a long walk in the forests, enjoying all life you are meeting there. I want to mention as well that in the first minute, it really feels like being in between flies. Think it's the "abrupt" timing in that part that appeals to the movements of the flies, or insects in general. This is really top again, Carlo. Think it's one of your best. Enjoyed it very much. Pure magic indeed.

A few Eastern influences here Carlo, thoughtful spacing to create the best effect of the instruments, you are so creative amigo
Fantastic, fantastical music Carlo. The mood, the little pauses, the interplay between the guitars, everything works together here to make a little magic.

Cool Carlo - excellent dynamics on the guitar gives the song it's flare, and the Mellotron enhances the background - well done!

Yes, Rodz has used the term "trippy", which this qualifies for (as it does for a lot of your work) I liked the "old world" vibe done with a potpourri of instrumentation. Also enjoyed all the factoids about the Mayfly. Quite the cool sonic journey for an old goat roper...

Great melody, it has a kind of mystical quality about it. I imagine a dance similar to something Middle Eastern or Asian, yet floating in the air like the mayfly. An almost trippy kind of groove which definitely appeals to the senses.
