Story behind the song
I knew someone pretty well over the course of their twenty four year marriage. For the first couple of years it was pretty good but over the final twenty two it was an unending battle of wills and angry episodes interspersed with occasional and fleeting illusions of happiness. It ended when their daughter finished college. Having a songwriter quirk...I wrote a song from the vantage of the husband whom I knew the better of the two.
