Story behind the song
I'm a fan of 1950s rock 'n' roll and of the country music of the same era. A lot of that early rock 'n' roll was, in fact, country songs that were given a bit of a twist by new artists like Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty and others. At some point they sort of became blended into what I think of as honky tonk rock 'n' roll. This is a song about a guy who will probably never make it to the big time but he's happy just playing honky tonk rock 'n' roll in a bar with a swingin' door and a sawdust floor.
