Back in the old times in the wild, wild West, a man's best friend was his horse! A collab by Holger Luth and Knud Erik Jensen.

New band name for my one man band. The ancient form of my first name.
My name is Holger Luth. I was about 15 years old, when I got my first guitar. Actually it belonged to an older friend, but the never played it, so he let me borrow it. I had been taking piano lessons earlier, but I hated it. The most fun I had with the piano, was to create my own little tunes. i was no good at repetitive rehearsing. It has been the same with my guitar playing. Many of my guitar playing friends, spent hours rehearsing technical stuff. I never had the patience for that, I just did what I thought sounded right. My mind was more directed towards songwriting, than towards being the guitar hero, though I did like to play neverending live solos, long enough to make the bass player make puking sounds and the drummer start throwing sticks at me... I played in both small and larger bands with up to 8-9 people, with violins, flutes and lots of other instruments, but I think my best time in a band, was playing in a three piece. It was in the aftermath of Police, British New Wave, the Danish Punk scene, Danish songwriters like C.V. Jorgensen and many more. You had to invent a lot of new "big" chords, in order to create a bigger sound, being the only guitarist ( and lead singer). Later I started listening a lot to bands like U2, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk and most of all Peter Gabriel. Peter is like my guiding star. I have had the luck of seeing him in concert a couple of times in the recent years and even if he has gained a few pounds and is called "Papa Bear" by his bass player, he can still sing better than anyone I know. His voice is directly wired to his heart, it's like every word has its' own set of wings and flies out of his mouth, carrying an important message. Wish I could get anywhere near that! My musical taste has developed over the years and I try out a lot of different genres, out of curiosity and because I get inspired by other musicians, here on SC and by other friends in music. I have 3 sons, that are all engaged in music somehow and they have also inspired me a lot. They have a totally different take on the term "Musician", than I have and I find it inspiring and I am amazed at the multifaceted way they can tackle the tasks of a songwriter, producer and musician. I must admit, that my music sounds a little old fashioned compared to music of today, but what the heck.. I am from 1957, I grew up with Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jefferson Airplane, The Band, Bob Dylan.. need I say more?

Story behind the song
This is a collab between Holger Luth & Knud Erik Jensen for the CLickers Club Animal Challenge. Knud Erik had an idea of using horse sounds and gallopping horses as inspiration for our contribution. Also we thought of all the cowboy clichées we could think of for the lyrics. We both played some guitar and bass and I put on the vocals and ended up with this cowboy rock type of a challenge song :)
Lyrics
Riding my horse, into the sunset. Best darn horse, a man did ever see. He carried me through deserts, where the sun nearly killed me. He carried me to safety, when I was on the run. I patched him up, when he took a bullet. I always took care of my horse - he's my friend. Together, we are a team, like a man/horse machine. We are truly invincible, We will ride along through Heaven and Hell. Once I was wounded, just waiting to die. My horse woke me up and carried me away. He found the doctor's house, all by himself. And banged on the door, to get the doctor out. I patched him up, when he - took a bullet. I always took care of my horse - he's my friend. Together, we are a team, like a man/horse machine. We are truly invincible, We will ride along through Heaven and Hell.

Ya don't hear songs like this often. Great blend of rock with a country theme in a progressive musical format. So many changes in this...challenging! Well sung and played guys. A giddy-up and go tune!

At the start have to think of a western. When I listen further the Rock elements are coming in. There is such a simple set up with clear structures and melodies here. Solid and in style going back to the 70's. Fascinating is the sound of the galloping horse that is coming back throughout the song. Enjoyed it!

Really brilliant collab - great melodies, wonderful production and a fine vocal performance! Lots of different elements blending really well together - especially like the way you bring in a slower 6/8 chorus and then go back to the galloping section. Cool work guys!
Great cowboy rock, Holger! A fun ride, cool tempo twists and a great open sound with a cool story. Two thumbs up!

You do a nice job on some of these iconic musical themes Holger. Very nice production and great vocals. Really captures the spirit of the American West, at lest how it was portrayed musically. Very nice guitars and rhythm tracks with nice tempo changes. Super job Holger and Knud!

Excellent song Holger, the music and rhythm gallops along creating great visuals of a horse in motion and the lyrics tell a great story of loyalty and devotion. Love that guitar solo too!

One of my childhood best friends stood 18 hands high - Big Dan - a Morgan with a long, steady gallop. Spent many a day in the summer out on the trails with him in northern Wyoming. This is a fantastic Country Rocker Holger and Knud - Bravo and giddy-up!! ;)
