One live pass of an Ovation Legend acoustic guitar. There are no strings, but I have played some multi-tap delay tricks to give it that feel.

This is Jeff Kratzman's Christian Page. I have two categories one for Secular and one for Christian songs. I've had a lifelong relationship with Christ and not to explore the spiritual side in music, would be foolish. I hope you enjoy the songs and take the time to follow-up on some of the Bible verses that inspired the songs. I welcome all feedback, but unpleasantness will just be deleted. This isn't a forum for theological debate. If you don't want to listen to Christian Music, try the Jeff Kratzman - Songs link. There's another 50 songs there.

Story behind the song
The basis of the song is an abolitionist poem written by John Pierpont written in 1843. I added two new verses and came up with new music rather than recycling the hymn. For the slave deliverance was either by Christ or death. In this version I tried purposely to have a non-traditional guitar sound and instead utilized multi-tap delays to create ambiance as well to simulate a string section following the guitar.
Lyrics
1. *I would not live always; I ask not to stay, Where I must bear the burden and heat of the day: Where my body is cut with the lash or the cord, And a hovel and hunger are all my reward. I would not live always, where life is a load To the flesh and the spirit: — since there is an abode For the soul disenthralled, let me breathe my last breath And repose in Your arms, my Deliverer and Death! 2. Where the fires always burn and it’s so cold at night Where Jesus is preached, but there is no wrong or right Is it really just all words? Is there any defense? To expect Jesus to come, but to ignore my deliverance 3. If there’s only one God and savior for the world Is each flesh different? Does man have a cure? Is there conscious in our daily commerce Does God turn a blind eye to the white purse? 4.* I would not live always to toil as a slave: O no, let me rest, though I rest in my grave; For there, from their troubling, the wicked shall cease, And, free from his master, the slave will find peace
