A song inspired by a trip to Hawaii.

Musician and song writer in Seattle, Washington.
For as long as I can remember, music has been a passion of mine. While playing for a live audience is great fun (most of the time), I've always had a special interest in recording -- both the technology and the process itself. These days I don't play gigs any more, but I enjoy writing and recording music for others to hear online. Hopefully, you'll find something you like here. Don't forget to look at the individual song pages for lyrics and information about my collaborators. Thanks for visiting.

Story behind the song
One day many years ago Craig Hansen brought me a recording of a new song idea he was working on. He had a gorgeous guitar melody and bass part, but no idea for lyrics. I was leaving soon for a trip to Hawaii and offered to take a cassette along (no iPods in those days!) hoping to have a chance to work on lyrics while I was there. Sitting out under the stars one beautiful tropical night, I wrote this story. Ultimately, Craig and I made two different recordings of this song with our other writing partner Steve Schultz. The first version was a four-track cassette demo made with a drum machine. Some time later the three of us formed our first band with drummer Tim Young. Together we recorded the version offered here in a Minneapolis studio. This recording features Craig on lead vocal and lead guitar, Steve on second guitar, Tim on drums, and me on bass. Steve and I also did background vocals.
Lyrics
Moonbeam walker with the face of midnight Liquid eyes upon my dreams Night time stalker on a trace of starlit scenes In your island eyes I see the morning sun Leave the night behind us Amber curtain slicing through the darkness In the land with the golden rings Never certain what the end of darkness brings Gentle waves lift me up to touch the moonlight Leaving me to wake upon the shore Careless winds weave a net of birds while I implore In your island eyes I see the morning sun Leave the night behind us Sultry singer with the voice of oceans Moving soft like a shadow on the sand Could it be that you bring me morning in your hand In your island eyes I see the morning sun Leave the night behind us
