Lyrics
Dusk settles, In the halflight I walk, heading home I arrive at the entrance to the wood, make my way along the pathway through the trees, overhanging bows of leaves on either side shut out the light Near halfway now, too late to go back, encased in darkness, make my way along the track. Nothing to hear, not a sound, alone & insecure in a place that’s renowned, tis a place of Death where sad souls come, two found hanging from the bows, others do jump from the bridge at the other end, onto the road . Wreaths left by loved ones at the spot they did fall are common sight to all that do pass. Then, as I continue along the path, to my horror stands next to me a hooded figure, I nearly walked into him, so close I could touch, look into his face, of which there was no trace, just a black space, he made no movement, stood very still, wearing the attire of a Friar. I let out a yell & ran as fast as I could, this faceles Monk put the fear into me I have to admit. Then some months later I’m speaking with a friend, I had made no mention to him of my ordeal – he was talking about the Abbey ruins nearby, said many had seen the ghost of a Monk, that it had been seen in the Abbey grounds & also in Peck Wood. It was in this very Wood that I did see the Friar, tho’ I had no idea that others had seen .... A Hooded Ghost haunts that wretched place & I will never return at the approach of night.
