My ode to quitting tobacco. See below for more info.
It's just me. I write it, sing it, and play the guitars.
Story behind the song
My favorite baseball player of all time died of mouth cancer last year. It scared me badly. So after a 30-some year love affair with nicotine, I was motivated to quit. It sucked and still sucks. I mostly chewed, but I have smoked my share of cigarettes. I Quit Smoking sounded like a better song than I Quit Chewing. The funny thing is that this song motivates me to stay on the wagon. I wrote a song about it. I'm committed. I can't go back now! lol
Lyrics
(verse 1)
My girlfriend said she was tired of me stinkin'
Cigarettes are bad, what are you thinkin'?
I was getting tired of hearing her yakkin'
She said to quit or she was a-packin'
But I only smoke about a pack a day
It's not like I'm doing hard drugs anyway
But I guess I'll give it a whack
If it gets her off of my back
(chorus)
I quit smokin'
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
I like smokin'
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
I quit smokin'
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
I miss smokin'
(verse 2)
The doctor said that the smokin' would kill me
He gave me pills that he said I could try for free
I'd seen the pills on the T.V. ads
People quit smokin', and they sure looked glad
But doc I only smoke about a pack a day
It's not like I'm snortin' cocaine anyway
But I guess I'll give it a shot
Give me all of the pills that you got
(chorus)
(bridge)
But now my food tastes funny
And my house smells funny
And my head feels funny
I'm saving some money
But I don't know what to do with my hands
The worst part is that I'm sitting there at work, and people are going our for their smoke breaks, and I know that they're all out there just smoking and talking and having a big ol' time, and I'm thinking "You lucky bastards!"
(chorus)
