Story behind the song
My musical letter to Pres. George W. Bush written in 2002 during the run up to the Iraq War. I'm posting this as part of a forum discussion about the blackballing of the Dixie Chicks from Country radio at that time
Lyrics
Oh, yes, I know the difference between Iran and Iraq
I'm not some lame- brained good-ole-boy country songwriter hack
Heard you promise to protect and defend this country from all harm
You can't say you wasn't warned there was reason for alarm
But you went back to Texas, vacationed for a month
Now I agree with the Dixie Chicks your a very oily bunch
chorus
And you won't play this on your radio
I'm not sayin' what you want me to say
I'm not some jockey on a talk show
whose opinion comes pre-paid
Excuse me I'm for equality
think workers should be getting more
A living wage, a pension in old age
I'm not happy about the War
Thank you Mr President for that $300 check
And when it's time for me to retire this country's gonna be a wreck
You borrowed from the workin' man to give the rich the gain
Our so-called Social Security if going down your deficit drain
Forests coming under attack, pollution grows each day
just make a large contribution, call Dick Cheney today
chorus
cool guitar stuff
chorus again
