Story behind the song
a retelling of one of my favourite quests in Skyrim, and a tribute to my favourite immortal companion and marriage candidate.
Lyrics
Child of Elsweyr, land of warm sands
But now Skyrim's my home since I left the caravans
Raiding crypts, selling my loot in Solitude
Then one day I was tracked down by a courier dude
With a note from an old friend, Madesi the Argonian
He set up a shop selling jewellery in Riften
Heard I was around, wanted me to come by
Tell tales, drink some bloodwine, just like old times
Hit Riften, stopped at the Bee and Barb for a drink
Saw an armored woman so fine I didn't know what to think
She want by the name of Mjoll the Lioness
Told a tale of Dwemer ruins and an interrupted quest
Something about my eyes made her kinda respect me
She probably didn't have a clue how much her tale would affect me
But I knew that I'd be heading on a righteous endeavour
When she told me how she'd lost her dear Grimsever
Sent on a quest by an NPC
Beautiful and brave with a quest for me
This humble Kajiit can help this fair Nord
I'll delve into Dwemer ruins to retrieve her sword
Sent on a quest by an NPC
Maiden of Riften, bane of thieves
I never claimed to be the most brave or bold
But this time it's for the glory and not the gold
Mzinchaleft, deep cold and vast
Winding ruin full of remnants from the ancient past
Had to cut through countless Falmer tasked to keep me from my goal
Smashed Animunculi reawakened for patrol
Found the chamber after what seemed like forever
Only one thing stood between me and Grimsever
The Centurion construct that I was warned about
It was a glorious battle, but there was never any doubt
I struck it down, grabbed the sword
Checked a few chests before returning to the Nord
I found an amulet of Mara, and I knew it was destiny
When I got back to Riften I asked Mjoll to marry me
I gave her the sword, she gave me her heart
And in the Temple of Mara our life together would start
Now we never wanna stray from each other's gaze
So we'll be raiding crypts together for the rest of our days
I fell in love with an NPC
Beautiful and brave, she's the one for me
I won the heart of this fair Nord
Now I fight by her side when she draws that sword
I fell in love with an NPC
Maiden of Riften, bane of thieves
I never claimed to be the most brave or bold
But I can claim to be the happiest Kajiit in the hold
