Lyrics
ANY MAN Billy’s got a place, yeah he got out of the house Books and a hot plate, and a window facing South He ain’t never been alone before, and he’ll never get ahead But he reads about the living and the dead Carla’s filling in the form and she doesn’t check the box She didn’t tell the truth ‘cause she couldn’t stand the loss There’s the kids and there’s papa, and there’s lines that you don’t cross As she thought about the living and the lost CHORUS: Any day at every moment any man can change And take the world into his empty hands Any day at any moment a man can turn around And make the sands of time to rearrange Johnny put his weapon down, and he turned and walked away He said “I have done what I have done” but not another day Will I fire upon the village, will I fill the world with dread As he thought about the living and the dead INSTRU VERSE: THEN CHORUS: Any day at every moment any man can change And take the world into his empty hands Any day at any moment a man can turn around And make the sands of time to rearrange Bobby puts his work aside and stares into the glass ‘Swears “Not another second will I work to make this last” As he watched his brothers beaten, and he watched his sisters gassed And he thought about the living and the past Jimmy put the bottle down and he stared out of the glass ‘Said to himself I’m going soon but I think I’m going last Put his fingers to the photographs and blood swelled in his head As he thought about the living and the dead
