Story behind the song
Our days are numbered, but too many people sleepwalk through their days, oblivious to the fact that ... "One blink of an eye; you live and you die."
Lyrics
ONE Blink OF AN EYE Sunrise, Open your eyes, Hear the truth, And speak no lies. Oh, sweet Dawn, Your Bible’s on The Book of Ruth And Babylon. One blink of an eye; You live and you die. No time to ask why Life is passing you by. High Noon Comes far too soon. Flashes of youth Will fade to ruin. Oh, Midday, What can you say? Egads! Forsooth! A Shakespeare play. One blink of an eye; You live and you die No time to ask why Life is passing you by. Shadows fall, And you recall Old John Booth And Lee Oswald. No middle names For men of shame, More than uncouth, Branded with blame. One blink of an eye; You live and you die. No time to ask why Life is passing you by. Sunset, What do you get? Long of tooth And short of breath. Eventide, Lord knows you’ve tried. Gin and vermouth Got you tongue-tied. As life winds down, We look around At all the things That might have been. As life winds down, The dreams we found Are fast fleeting And misshapen. Nothing can last; This too shall pass. Your fate is Beyond your control. It goes by fast, From first to last. No wait and see For your poor soul. One blink of an eye; You live and you die. No time to ask why Life is passing you by. Last blink of an eye -- You lived; now you die. No time to ask why Life has passed you by. Copyright © 2014 Lex Zaleta
