Oxford University's ugly blocks have vandalised the views and environment of Port Meadow. Together, we the people of Oxford, can hold the City Council and University of Oxford to account and get these buildings lowered! Save Port Meadow!

Story behind the song
Oxford's Port Meadow has been desecrated by the ugly tower blocks erected by an unthinking University of Oxford, and approved by an inept City Council, without proper consultation with the community. The buildings vandalise the views of the Dreaming Spires and ruin the tranquil experience of Port Meadow. This song was inspired by the campaign to get the height of the buildings reduced, and to hold both City Council and University to account. Many thanks to all the vocalists and musicians who have contributed their time and talent and passion to this recording project: Paul Gibbon, Vic Bignet, Sarah Reeve, Ania Rybacka, Johnny Hinkes, Sophie McNally, Charley Clack, Milo Clack, Mick Clack, Waz Hylton-Brare, Susan Scott, Rajo Taylor-Smith, Lee Timermanis, Denise Eustace, Daniel Liggins and Hillary Lette.
Lyrics
Save Port Meadow from Oxford University They've destroyed the views of the dreaming spires For you and for me Now we won't rest until they chop At least two storeys off the top Shame on you O.C.C. For this Castle Mill prison block Let's restore the beauty and the charm There is no justification for this harm Save Port Meadow from Oxford University What the hell were they thinking On the planning committee 'cause no amount of mitigation Can hide this abomination This vile monstrosity Proves that they're not trustworthy Now thousands voice their indignation There is no justification for this harm No soil test for contamination Lack of public consultation No apology for this hideous view There's only one thing we can do... We gotta save Port Meadow from Oxford University They've destroyed the views of the dreaming spires For you and for me Now we won't rest until they chop At least two storeys off the top Shame on you O.C.C. For this Castle Mill prison block Restore the beauty and the charm There is no justification No justification for this harm © 2013 Mick Clack
