Story behind the song
Another song written in Sri Lanka – but this time with a clear, if somewhat literal origin in that it was raining! It started to drift towards a C&W feel as the lyrics grew but pulled back from that in the final recording, leading into a ‘soft-rockout’ at the end.
Lyrics
RAK 05 Sometime’s it’s Gotta Rain (Steve Franks harmonies)(SL) (E F#m)2 E We all like to see the sunshine F#m E Filtering through the trees A E Gets you thinking of the good times F#m A B Sets your mind at ease A C#m But somewhere in the distance G#m F#m you’ll hear that old refrain …. G#m A E Sometime’s (extra half bar) it’s gotta rain (E F#m)2 to V2 Nothing lasts for ever Life’s a circle game As seasons change the weather Nothing stays the same So if you want to push on through to rebirth once again Sometime’s it’s gotta rain (stay on E) Chorus A Sometime’s it’s gotta rain E Sometimes the laughter stalls F#m Without some variation E Even the best of times can pall A You can’t appreciate the highs C#m without a little pain F#m G#m A E (E F#m)2 Sometime’s it’s gotta rain So when you’re feeling fragile Or when you’re courage fails when you’re pushed beyond your limit Or up against the rails Look up to the heavens and cry out once again Sometime’s it’s gotta rain Instrumental verse/ Chorus / last verse (E F#m)n ‘sometimes it’s gotta rain’ (rock out / fade out….)
