Just An Old Rock n Roller
A fun Rockin' Country song dedicated to any old Rock n Rollers who play Country music today
Folk-Rock, Country-Rock
Steve Domer has performed live across the US for over 45 years. He has won past songwriting awards in the American Song Festival in the late 1970's.
Currently records and produces original songs and performs live periodically as an acoustic guitar and vocals solo.
Story behind the song
In the 50's many Country musicians migrated to the new Rock n Roll / Rockabilly music. Today that trend is reversing as old Rockers are migrating to the New Country. This is one of their stories.
Lyrics
Just an old Rock n Roller, (Playin' In A New Country Band)
Steve Domer 2014
No one liked my old Rock n Roll down in Memphis
So I tried a little Country, went to Nashville, Tennessee
But every time I sang,
They said, "Son ,you ain't got no twang!"
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
So I loaded up my truck, made my way to Amarillo
'Cause Texas is a big state, thought it'd be the place for me
But in Texas no one claps their hands
If you don't have a fiddle in the band
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
I made my way to Vegas
I played in Phoenix, and L.A.
They said, "Although you don't got no steel guitar,
still we like the way you play!"
"Though you don't sound like Hank Williams,
but your music makes us want to dance"
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
solo
But every time I sang
They said, "son you ain't got no twang"
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
I played some clubs in Bakersfield
In Fresno, San Jose
They said, "Though that don't sound like western swing,
But boy you sure can play!"
"Well you don't sound like Buck Owens,
But your music might have a chance"
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
I'm just an old Rock n Roller, playin' in a New Country band
