Story behind the song
He gets to work, she lives the trust fund life, while he picks up the tab. It’s an age-old story, but that doesn’t help her daddy like it any better. Still, there are others getting less for giving more, and he knows it.
Lyrics
Cambridge Nights - Words and Music by Douglas Osborne
Davy’s never known
and he doesn’t want to
that he’s never had it bad
like the ladies selling something so sweet
He’s rarely tasted
though more often he’d like to
the good that he’s never had
like the hot chocolate at the Cafe Pamplona
Some of these Cambridge Nights
could flash in his face
could see his disgrace
Even parking cars under downtown lights
might not pull him up from this place
Betty’s never done it
though she says she knows how to
She can drive a fellow mad
with all of her daddy’s presents and her nose job
Davy’s had it all before
he says it’s all because he had to
He says he’s really oh so sad…
Some of these Cambridge Nights…
