exploring the multiverses sound by sound and word by word
Story behind the song
story behind the song: heard "peace love and understanding" earlier (remember Costello, Elvis not Lou) and during my walk this a.m., started pondering tolerance and acceptance of different ideologies, faiths etc etc and realized the humanity is good at making exceptions for anything, just have to rationalize it correctly. this was based on a church social group i overheard while out i was walking this morning, but any group of people would do.
Lyrics
stay a while, laugh, get all the news
you know you've got nothing better to do
repeat the words, say them real loud
a good rant in solidarity makes you feel proud
a good story's made better by selecting what's true
spread it around you ain't got nothing to lose
don't ask questions, don't check facts
alls good in gossip nothing better than that
except the truth
could set them free
and the truth
would let them be
who they are is different and so very strange
and you don't like them here anyway
said with conviction and you know whos don't lie
kinda different how the telling goes wide
like all those countries where they're all the worst
dogmatic ties invents some new curse
not that it matters whats being said
you gave up thinking for believing instead
cause its more fun to run them into the ground
witch hunts and stonings and hangings abound
where no truth
could set them free
cause the truth
wasn't let out to be seen
who they were then is seen so differently today
but they still died and nothings changed
nothings changed
accept the truth,
could set them free
and the truth
would let them be
but who they are is different and so very strange
you would rather believe all the lies and foster the hate
instead of truth
