Story behind the song
Comfort and Joy is the third song in a series about the fictional coin known as The Croonie. In it, I explore myth-making for chldren in a culture where money attains a quasi-religious status.
Lyrics
1
Ev’ry July children are told
“Deep are dreams of our mind.
Tomorrow you’ll wake to magical coins;
Leave all your concerns far behind.
Georgius the Third is here for you;
Think of him whenever you are blue.”
CHORUS:
Magical coins
For the girls and the boys
Owleister Croonie
Gives comfort and joy
2
Open your eyes, Allison Drake;
Everyone is awake.
Georgius left some Croonies downstairs;
He does it to remind you how much he cares.
Hold your Croonies close, they’ll keep you safe.
Try to get enough to take your breath away.
CHORUS
3
Exeter Ames is early to rise
Hopes to add to his pile
Shiny and new, light up his day
Hidden in a special secret way
Buried underneath an olive grove,
Guarded by a pack of wild wolves.
