Lyrics
Early on a Saturday morning
I was sitting by the riverside
I wasn’t doing anything
just pondering and watching the tide
up swam a prominent mackerel
must’ve come from a good fish family
he had a certain air about him
like he was fish royalty
he said, “son, I’ve got something to tell you,
the most amazing story you ever heard,
a story no fish ever told you
a story you’d never hear from a bird.”
I said, “okay, what- ” when he stopped me
and said “you’ll hardly believe your ears,
it’s a story of drama and intrigue
going back a few hundred of years.”
(Fish phrase things oddly like that.)
I said, “Henry please don’t delay any further,
and by the way I’m calling you Henry,
I’m waiting here with baited breath,
I’m waiting here with irony.
(Cuz, it’s a fish story.)
Henry the fish drew himself up
and with a bow he began to orate
the details of the tragedy
that I am about to relate.
