Heidi Wolfson is a Philadelphia singer-songwriter. In her fourth decade of making music, Heidi is taking a slightly softer approach... but her music remains vocally interesting and the lyrics are definitely worth checking out. If you like Patti Smith, you will probably like Heidi. Have fun and thanks for listening.

Story behind the song
This is the first of the songs I wrote for February Album Writing Month of 2014 (FAWM). It was written about my stepfather, who is nearing the end of his life. He has been very good to me for well over 30 years. I love him immensely. I can't imagine a world without him.
Lyrics
The Captain February 1, 2014 Heidi Wolfson Played in open E (kapo on 4th fret) You came into our lives in the middle of our night And lifted the weight from our heavy faces You took our mother in under your protective arms You built a wooden table ad showed us our places And what do we give you in return? When the boat is docked When the water is still And the anchor is dropped down You’re the Captain You’re the Captain You are the man You stepped in with your dimples, your silver hair and a wink Merry Christmas to all, Merry Christmas to all Put presents in our chimneys and brought peace to our world Marry Christmas to all, Merry Christmas to all And what do we give you in return? When the tree is cleared On January 1st And the air smells like firewood You’re the Santa You’re the Santa You are the man You tell us not to worry, everything will be ok We’ve never seen you fret, we’ve never seen you sweat You quickly fix what is broke, you have tools and a sharp mind That doesn’t need to show off, that doesn’t need to show And what do we give you in return? When the house has been repaired And we are resting in your eaves You’re the shelter You are the shelter You’re the man You’re the Captain You’re the Santa You are the man
