Story behind the song
It was the latter years of the dieing old West. Maria was a "working girl" in a small town on the Santa Fe trail. and Maria knew better, but her heart cryed out with Love for Fernado. Their Love was from the soul, Maria could feel it. Her feelings for him were beyond anything she had felt before. But they were young and Fernado was certain there was a fortune for him out in the world - so he left to find his destiny so he could return and take her away from this dusty old town and they could live happily. Maria begged him not to leave - fearing the worst, she may never see him again. Fernado left the small town, and his treasure Maria in search of the illusive fortune he felt certain was his for the taking. Maria continued on without Fernando though she never once forgot him. Then one night a loud noise woke her from her dream and her heart fell. She couldn't breathe, every muscle in her body shook - her hands on her head as she looked up and beyond the ceiling over her head. A sudden dread came over her and her scream echoed the night - the night Fernando died.
