Story behind the song
Folks always say, "I'll see you later". A funny answer has always been- "The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise". We just twisted that phrase to say "and the church don't rise".
Lyrics
The Good Lord Willing Dan Adkins/Gary Shepherd Centergy Publishing/BMI We seem to take for granted There will be another day And tomorrow we will be together still We say thanks for coming over And I'll see you again But we never can be certain that we will Chorus The Good Lord willing and the church don't rise If we don't break through the eastern skies You say, "I'll see you later", here's my reply The Good Lord willing and the church don't rise If we all knew for certain That tomorrow wouldn't come How would we treat each other every day I can say without a doubt We'd be kind to everyone If "goodbye" was just a heartbeat away Chorus The Good Lord willing and the church don't rise If we don't break through the eastern skies You say, "I'll see you later", here's my reply The Good Lord willing and the church don't rise The Good Lord willing and the church don't rise
