Story behind the song
Traumerei (Dreaming) comp. Robert Schumann (1810-1856) (Public Domain) This piece is from a collection written for piano by Schumann called Kinderszenen (Scenes from Child-hood). One of my favorite quotes “Talent labours, genius creates” is from Florestan, one of the twin alter-ego personalities which Schumann had created for himself (which also came in handy when doing a negative review in his music review periodical). When I was a child my mom would often play a recording of Eugene Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra which had an orchestral transcription of this piece on the album. I remember falling asleep to this album on summer nights. My little “samba” arrangement of this is dedicated to my mother.
