Done for a songwriting forum. SSGY12W3. I had started to write lyrics. Had no chorus until the assignment: use the words "the gypsy woman told me." I didn't use them where I was supposed to, but it worked. I've made the last line more nostalgic.

Story behind the song
Based on a true story (except for the gypsy part) about a husband and wife singing duo. She died from complications of a serious chronic illness. He went home and committed suicide.

We wondered why they'd been replaced,
But nobody was saying.

The gypsy woman told her
That her life wouldn't be long.
So she spent it wishing
That the fortune was wrong.

We didn't know that on that day
Her life decrescendoed to a whisper.
The next day she passed away.
One last time he kissed her.
