When kids finally grow up and move on, it takes a toll. A father's lament kind of song. A rough basement practice demo.

Two Family Guys with not nearly enough time on their hands.
We're Jeff Oxford & Tim Perrythe Oxford-Perry Project a couple of aspiring Grand Rapids, Michigan songwriters. Tim is the word guy and Jeff cranks out the music and studio production. We're both family guys, and for the most part our music has its origins in the maelstrom that is family life in the 21st century. The Basement Bytes is actually a collection of songwriting demos. We're not really interested in being performers, per se and would be quite content to let others record our material. In the meantime, The Basement Bytes stands as our musical kick-at-the-cat. Acoustically, basements aren't exactly the perfect place to record. But for creating, jamming and storytelling, they do just fine. We are pleased to present this home-built, computer-recorded, cellar-chilled musical chronicle for your listening pleasure. We hope you enjoy The Basement Bytes.

Story behind the song
When my 2 oldest kids moved out in the space of just a few months, it left a rather large, gaping hole. We always wished things were a little quieter. But not this quiet.
Lyrics
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Your bedroom floor quite as clean I’m not used to seeing so much space No sox or shoes or dirty clothes Books arranged in tidy rows Nothing anywhere is out of place The pillow where you laid your head Lies undisturbed upon your bed And it’s hard, to let my heart Let you grow, and let you go We don’t lie awake at night Waiting for your headlights The sound of keys jangling by the door We don’t let ourselves anticipate You coming home so very late Your sleepy footsteps echo down the hall. The past is not a place we wish to dwell The place you sleep tonight is somewhere else And it’s hard to let my heart Let you grow, and let you go And it’s hard for me to know How to let my heart, let you go We poured so much of us into your soul And it’s hard for us to give up that control No matter where you ever walk or roam Just remember how to use a phone. And it’s hard, to let my heart Let you grow, and let you go And it’s hard to finally know How to let my heart, let you go
