Penny Black - Lancashire Fun Folk Duo - Funny (and not so Funny songs and Poems)
Penny Black combines the talents of Lancashire "lads" - John Bond (Vocals and Guitar ) and Pete Skinner (5 String electric and Acoustic Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin, Variax, Roland GR-20/Switch Midi Guitar, Q-Chord etc. and Vocals) supplemented on occasions by one or more of their musical friends or family . Having spent many years honing their musical abilities (they've been honed so much they're just about worn away!) they decided to form a fun group for their own amazement! playing Lancashire songs and dialect poems, comic (some might say risqué) songs plus various serious and not so serious instrumentals, the most important aspect of the group had to be to enjoy what they were doing and to spread this enjoyment to their audiences - this they have succeeded in doing in fact a local report on one of their gigs stated "when Penny Black had finished their set, there wasn't a dry seat in the house!" The lads, like the Penny Black, are getting on a bit (and think they're worth a bob or two) and have been working clubs pubs and festivals in various groups and solo since the 60's, John was a long time member of the madcap group Distressed Gentlefolk, Pete has played (and still does) with several "line-ups" ranging from Shanty groups to Rock and Roll Some people might say that philately will get you no where but this group of rare old oddities is definitely a "First Class Collection"

Lyrics
Blackpool Dreamin’ © 2003 Words & Music Pete Skinner & John Bond The cobbled stones would hurt our feet, As we walked down the terraced street The old school bell we had to beat, Dreaming of a daytrip up to Blackpool There’s candyfloss rock, ice cream,When we were kids we all would dream Of a daytrip, a daytrip up to Blackpool Dad was working on the dock, Keeps his eye upon the clock It moved so slow it seems to mock, Dreaming of a daytrip up to Blackpool Mum would cook and clean and scrub, Washing in the dolly tub Save divi with the co-op club, Dreaming of a daytrip up to Blackpool Chorus Up at six the day would break, Alarm clock rings, we’re all awake Sandwiches and flask we’d take, Going on a daytrip up to Blackpool Being good is such a strain, playing I spy on the train Hoping that it wouldn’t rain, Going on a daytrip up to Blackpool Chorus Tower spotted, now we’re here, are we going on the pier And pleasure beach if it’s not dear, we were on a daytrip up to Blackpool Golden sands and sea of blue, Punch and Judy, time just flew Then in to Tower to see the zoo, we were on a daytrip up to Blackpool Chorus Chips for tea from corner shop, then Mum and Dad at pub would stop. Us kids outside with crisps and pop, we were on a day trip up to Blackpool. Night time comes and lights go on, ride the tram along the prom. Now’t like this where we come from, we were on a day trip up to Blackpool. Chorus Day is done and home we’re led, safely tucked inside our bed All those thought drift round our head, dreaming of our day trip up to Blackpool
