Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
The story told in the song is one that many Christians have heard ... about letting go of things of the world. This is my attempt at putting music to that familiar story.
Lyrics
A man was walking in the woods and he came upon a cliff. He stopped to enjoy the view and to rest and catch his breath. But as he turned to go the ground gave in He tumbled over the edge reaching out for anything. A shrub was growing From the side of the cliff He managed to grab it but what a predicament! The shrub was barely holding and when he changed his grip. When he moved at all the shrub would start to slip. There was no one there to help no one to hear his cry. So finally in desperation he looked toward the sky. “Lord, I know I’ve lived my life to do whatever I wanted to “But, Lord, if you’ll get me out of this I’ll change and live for you.” He thought he heard a voice. Did someone answer him? Just to play it safe he made the vow again. This time he really heard it A voice soft and clear The Lord said to him, “Sir, you’ve got a deal.” But then there was silence while he waited for God to act. He hung there ... and he waited Where was his miracle at? “Lord, I need help now!” “Sir, yes, I know. “I’m just waiting on you. ‘cause first you must let go.” “Lord, this shrub is all that's keeping me alive.” “Sir, if that’s what you believe I’m too small in your eyes. “If you think that I would break the promise I just made “Then you won’t keep your promise. You’ll just be too afraid. “But if you can let go like I said to do “You will find you can trust Me and I will know that I can trust you.” Letting go, of things that will fail anyway. Letting go, letting God take their place.
