Story behind the song
Digger’s Theme (Copyright 1985) Music by David L. Jones I think I just sat down at the piano and started messing around with some chords and eventually came up with a nifty, though somewhat involved, chord progression. The hook, played by the organ at the beginning, was something that came about independently (if I remember right). I remember hearing a Tom Scott tune that had a similar “ditty” (for lack of a better term) to it. When it came to giving it a name, I overheard a friend at work discussing someone named Digger and thought that was a neat name . . . so, hence: “Digger’s Theme.” I wasn’t until later that I realized he was talking about a college basketball coach. I re-recorded this tune from the original in 1985 mainly because my son Austin seems to like it a lot . . . and so do I.
