When most people hear me sing they think I am a woman. I am a counter-tenor, with a 4 octave vocal range. My voice has often been compared to that of Karen Carpenter, Sinéad O'Connor, and Jeff Buckley. I have been singing all my life and write on acoustic guitar. My new album, the “acoustic / electronic” 'sunshine', is uplifting, quirky, and melodic. Recorded with DFA Records engineer Abe Seiferth we have woven together influences of Jónsi (of sigur rós), Björk, This Mortal Coil, Electric Light Orchestra, Loretta Lynn, and vintage Madonna. The glitchy electro-country song, 'go', and the cover of Bread's 1971 hit, 'if', are sadder moments, but the happy synth title track, 'he loves me', and 'feel good' hold the spirit of the album as they celebrate the happier and more fun times of life. I wrote most of these songs in my mother's home country, Costa Rica, which adds a slight tropical feel to the music, like in 'blue island' and 'pura vida'. Before the album's release, select songs were tested as singles and played on a few indie radio stations around the world. The tracks caught the ears of club DJs in Europe and America, and many songs were remixed for the dance floor. I have included two club mixes on the album. The Tim Letteer remix of 'in a song' climbed the Billboard Dance Chart for 15 weeks. I have also played at legendary venues in New York City like the Knitting Factory and CBGBs. I was born, bullied, & teased in Bedford, Indiana, and now live strong, happy, and free in Brooklyn, New York.

Story behind the song
"pura vida" is the common saying in my mother's home country, Costa Rica. I wanted to give it the sound of the marimba music of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It's a great anthem for the dance floor.
